Chemical Solutions

Nafion™ Solution — 5%
Nafion™ solution is a diluted liquid form of the same chemical used for a PEM fuel cell membrane. It drastically reduces the amount of platinum needed as a catalyst by exposing a larger fraction of the platinum to the proton conductive medium. The Nafion™ solution also acts as a binding agent to hold the platinum, membrane, and carbon paper together. Nafion™ solution is perfluroinated ion-exchange solution, 5wt. % in a mixture of lower aliphatic alcohols and water. Contains 15% to 20% water.
Teflon Emulsion
Both Teflon PTFE and Teflon FEP are hydrophobic polymers and are the key components used in electrochemical cells such as fuel cells to produce a wide range hydrophobicity property in the gas diffusion electrode. These hydrophobic polymers can be used directly by mixing with catalysts and coat porous substrate (e.g. Carbon Paper or Carbon Cloth) to a variety of Teflon content.
